MEYRIN, Switzerland -- The Oklahoma women's basketball team cruised to its easiest win of its five-game European Tour with an 80-37 victory over Lancy Meyrin inside the Gym Champs Frechet Sunday afternoon in Meyrin, Switzerland.
After the score was tied at five at the 18:24 mark, the Sooners went on a 41-11 run to close out the first half, cease control of the game and earn a 42-point margin of victory. OU concludes its European Tour with a flawless 5-0 record and averages 86.2 points and 54.8 rebounds per game.
Sophomore Laura Andrews came off the bench to celebrate her birthday with a game-high 17 points. Andrews connected on three three-pointers and hit seven of 17 shots from the field. She also had four offensive rebounds and five steals. Teammates Leah Rush and Lauren Shoush each contributed 13 points, while Antoinette Wadsworth had a game-high 13 rebounds in her first start of games in Europe.

Britney Brown also was in the starting lineup for the Sooners, pocketing a game-high six steals and dishing out a game high tying four assists in 26 minutes of play. Shoush also had four assists.
“Antoinette (Wadsworth) rebounded extremely well, not just tonight but throughout the week,” said Sooner coach Sherri Coale. “Britney (Brown) was terrific defensively. She was extremely aggressive and made a lot of good things happen by getting touches on the basketball. Both Laura Andrews and Lauren Shoush attacked the basket aggressively creating extra pass opportunities which we did not convert on consistently.”
Due to the lopsided win, OU's bench outscored its opponent 52-14. Standout starters Dionnah Jackson and Erin Higgins only played 10 minutes in the Sooner's victory.
As a team, OU shot 40.5 percent from the field, 23.8 percent from the arc and 57.9 percent from the free throw line. The Sooners remained strong on the boards, out rebounding Lancy Meyrin 59-36.
“We were lousy from the free throw line and pretty poor again from behind the arc, but these five games have given us a tremendous head start on the 2004-05 season. Our young guys have had a great opportunity to prove themselves and learn in a low pressure environment. Our staff now heads into the summer with a laundry list of strengths and weakness and the beginnings of a game plan for our preseason work next fall. This experience has been invaluable for our team.”
The team travels to Paris, France, Monday for a two-day tour the city and will return home on Thursday, May 20.
Saturday Notes:
Sooners Laura Andrews and Krista Sanchez celebrated their birthday in Montreaux, Switzerland. Andrews turned 20 and Sanchez 19. Andrews scored a game-high 17 points and had five steals Sunday. Sanchez hit a three, had five rebounds and four steals to celebrate her birthday.
OU toured the Castle of Chillon. The rock on which the Chillion stands was occupied by men of the Bronze Age and later by the Russians. Originally the property of the Bishops of Sion, it was held in fief by the Counts of Savoy, the architect Pierre Mainier gave the edifice its actual size and appearance. The Castle was captured in 1536 by the Swiss (Bernese) who used it, for many years, as a depot, armoury and residence for their bailiffs. The Bernese left Chillion Castle in 1798, after the Vaudois Revolution, and the Castle became the property of the Canton of Vaud at its founding in 1803. Restoration work began at the end of the 19th century.
Oklahoma averaged 86.2 points and 54.8 rebounds per game in its European Tour. Dionnah Jackson led the team with 14.8 points per game, while Leah Rush averaged 11.6. Jackson also led the Sooners with 6.6 rebounds, followed by Beky Preston 6.2.
