TULSA, Okla. - No. 26 Oklahoma State took game one of the Bedlam Series presented by the Bank of Oklahoma and your Oklahoma Ford Dealers with an 8-5 win over No. 15 Oklahoma at Driller's Stadium Friday night.
A pair of runs in the sixth inning was all the Cowboys (28-14, 11-4 Big 12) needed to hold off a late Sooner (27-17, 13-6 Big 12) charge after OU fought back to pull to within a run after OSU exploded for six runs in the first inning.
“I'm disappointed for (Mark) Roberts because he's a senior. Besides the first inning and a couple of walks, it was a good job of pitching. He retired about 15 outs in a row but they had five hits with two strikeouts,” said OU head coach Larry Cochell.

“We'll be ready for tomorrow,” continued Cochell. “We're excited about the series because of how we hit tonight.”
The Cowboys sent all nine men to the plate in the first inning and scored the six runs on five hits off Roberts (6-4). The biggest blows in the frame came off the bat of rightfielder Rod Allen who hit a three run home run and first baseman Mario Matulich who hit a two run scoring single just ahead of Allen's blast. Third baseman Josh Fields started the scoring earlier with a RBI-double.
Junior first baseman Ole Sheldon (2-for-5) got the Sooners on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with a two run homer. Sophomore second baseman Russell Raley (1-for-4) led off the frame after being hit by a pitch and scored on the front end of Sheldon's fourth home run of the season.
The Sooners continued to hit up OSU starting pitcher Thomas Cowley for more runs in the fifth inning. Junior designated hitter Brenan Herrera (1-for-2) doubled to start the inning and freshman leftfielder Aaron Ivey (0-for-1) followed with a walk two batters later. An infield single by junior centerfielder Jeff Scuderi (1-for-4) drove in Herrera from third base for OU's third score. Sophomore shortstop Ryan Rohlinger (1-for-5) doubled home the remaining baserunners with two outs to pull Oklahoma to within a run at 6-5.
Roberts' night ended after pitching seven innings and giving up all eight runs on nine hits. He walked only one batter for the second straight contest and fanned five batters, leaving him eight strikeouts shy of breaking the school record.
After giving up the six run first frame, Roberts settled in to retire the next 12 straight batters before giving up another couple of runs in the sixth inning. OSU leftfielder Scott Kirby drew a walk and first baseman Mario Matulich followed with a double just ahead of rightfielder Keanon Simon's two RBI-double.
Raley extended his career best hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the seventh inning. Freshman catcher Josh Stinson saw his career best streak end at nine games with an 0-for-3.
The rivalry moves to Oklahoma City's SBC Bricktown Ballpark for Friday and Saturday night's games. Friday's contest begins at 7 p.m.
