Hybl, Holleyman Headed to NFL Europe

Hybl Named Starting QB for Scottish Claymores

March 30, 2004 | Football

Scottish Claymores head coach Jack Bicknell selected Nate Hybl as his starting quarterback for the Scots' opening game of the 2004 NFL Europe League season at Berlin Thunder on Sunday, April 4.

The Cleveland Browns' allocated quarterback, who wears No.18 for the Claymores, beat out stiff competition from Detroit Lions' allocated passer Curt Anes and Indianapolis Colts' triggerman Tom Arth to earn the highly-prized starting spot.

Hybl will now lead the team out in Berlin next Sunday as the Claymores open their World Bowl XII campaign, however, while making his starting selection, Head Coach Bicknell was keen to emphasise that all of the Claymores quarterbacks would see game action this season.

Bicknell, who coached Doug Flutie at Boston College, said, "We have three quarterbacks that played very well during training camp. I wanted to wait until the very last minute to make the right decision, and that decision right now is that Nate Hybl will start and probably play the first, third and fourth quarters of the game for us."

Bicknell added, "Curt Anes will play the second quarter because he also played extremely well in camp. Tom Arth, who was impressive in camp, will be our third quarterback.

"After a very short period of time, I feel this is the right decision, but I'll be continually evaluating it on a weekly basis."
