NORMAN, Okla. Junior David Henderson established three career-highs in Oklahoma's victory over No. 10 Stanford last weekend. For his efforts, Henderson was named the midwest region gymnast of the week by Inside Gymnastics Magazine. His victory in the all-around, posting a 54.300 career-high, paced the Sooners to their 49th straight victory.
Also against Stanford, Henderson tied his career-high on the high bar with a 9.100, which was good for fourth place and tied another career-high on the vault with a 9.400, taking second place. In addition, the Crosby, Texas native finished in the top five on the rings with a second place finish scoring a 9.450 and posted a fifth place finish on the floor (8.700).
“David competed very well in the all-around and was consistent in each of his performances at Stanford,” said Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams. “He is very deserving of this recognition. He added some difficulty to his routines this weekend and even when he encountered some problems, he recovered nicely and did not let it affect his all-around score. It was nice to see him have a complete meet and record a career-high.”
Senior co-captain Heath Mueller is the only other Sooner this season to be honored by the publication. Mueller was awarded the accolade after winning the all-around in the Rocky Mountain Open (Jan. 16).
Next up for the No. 2 Sooners is a showdown with No. 1 Illinois on Saturday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in the McCasland Field House.
