Josh Gore Wins MPSF Weekly Honors

March 16, 2004 | Men's Gymnastics

NORMAN, Okla.   University of Oklahoma junior Josh Gore was honored by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation as co-gymnast of the week with Nebraska's Josh Rasile announced on Tuesday.  It is Gore's first such honor this season and it marks the sixth time that a Sooner has been named the conference's gymnast of the week this year and third straight (David Henderson-3/9/04 & Jamie Henderson-3/3/04).

On March 12, Gore took home two first place finishes in the Sooners' regular season finale at Nebraska, where they also competed against Air Force.  Gore scored a career-high 9.400 on the parallel bars to capture honors on that apparatus.  Gore remained solid with a 9.500 on the pommel horse, his second highest score in the event this season, and his second first place finish of the night.

Gore also finished fifth on the high bar (8.950) and helped the No. 2 Sooners to a score of 219.200 that defeated No. 8 Nebraska (218.525) and No. 16 Air Force (203.125).

The Pflugerville, Texas native is ranked nationally in two events, No. 3 on the parallel bars and No. 8 on the pommel horse.

The Sooners (14-0) enter the Championship season this weekend in Palo Alto, Calif., for the MPSF Championships on March 19 and 20 hosted by Stanford.  OU will be seeking its sixth straight conference title and its fifth straight under Williams.
