Freshman ranks second in the Big 12 Conference games in three-point field goals made per game, averaging 2.50.
Norman, Okla. -- Redshirt-freshman Erin Higgins was named the Big 12 Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for games from Feb. 9-15, the conference office announced Monday. Texas A&M's Toccara Williams was named Big 12 Player of the Week. Players are nominated by each school's sports information office and voted on by a panel of media who cover Big 12 women's basketball.
Higgins had a solid week with averages of 10.5 points, 3.0 threes, 1.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. The 5-9 guard launched a career-high and school record 14 treys, while matching personal bests of 18 points and six 3s to assist OU to a 24-point victory over Kansas Saturday. She also had two rebounds, a career-high four assists and a personal-best four steals in 33 minutes of play.
Tuesday Higgins played 37 minutes of solid defense in OU's 68-62 upset win over then-No. 7 Texas Tech in Lubbock. She added a blocked shot, a steal, a rebound and two points to her stats line against the Lady Raiders.
The Oklahoma City native contributes 6.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while averaging 2.0 three-pointers per outing. Of Higgins' 45 field goals made, 40 have been 3s. In Big 12 play, she increases her averages to 7.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 2.5 threes per game.
Williams, a 5-9 senior guard, averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 7.0 steals as Texas A&M battled against No. 1 Texas and No. 7 Texas Tech, losing both games.
