NORMAN, Okla. Senior co-captain Heath Mueller was named Inside Gymnastics' gymnast of the week for the midwest region as announced on Wednesday. Inside Gymnastics is an all-access feature magazine that covers all levels and areas of the sport of gymnastics.
The Yukon, Okla. native competed in the Winter Cup (individual competition) held in Las Vegas, Nev., last weekend and was the top finisher in the all-around among schools competing from the region.
He finished 22nd in the all-around with a 52.175 and also took 10th in the high bar (9.275) in the first day of competition at the Winter Cup.
Mueller's combined score in the all-around consisted of an 8.600 (floor exercise), 8.650 (pommel horse), 7.950 (still rings), 8.950 (vault), 8.750 (parallel bars) and a season-high 9.275 on the high bar.
“Heath has been our go-to guy as an all-arounder for this team,” said Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams. “He has been very consistent and his performances at the Rocky Mountain Open as the all-around champion and his high finish at Winter Cup certainly validates this honor.”
Next up for Mueller and the No. 4 Sooners is a showdown with No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 California in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
