Sooners Begin Game Week on Thursday

MIAMI, Fla. -- Although the calendar says Thursday, the OU football team is now on its game week schedule and treated today as a Monday. The Orange Bowl game is just five days away on January 4th.

Coach Stoops met with the media at the official head coaches' press conference in Ft. Lauderdale this morning. You can read a complete transcript here. You can also read Pete Carroll's transcript here.

The players held position meetings at the hotel in Bal Harbour and then loaded the buses at 11 a.m. for practice. Although a stiff breeze continued, this was Oklahoma's first practice in full sun since arriving in south Florida.

Lynn McGruder did the dancing honors prior to team stretches. The Sooners then worked for roughly two hours on the fields at Barry University.

After practice, the players showered and boarded the buses bound for the beach. The Orange Bowl arranged for a lunch and beach party for the entire team. After that, the players will have some time off before curfew.

Several players will visit a local children's hospital tomorrow morning while the defensive coordinators and select players will meet with the press corps in Ft. Lauderdale. Special teams meetings, position meetings and a two-hour practice will follow.
