Sooners in the NFL: Week 15

December 20, 2004 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. Recap the most recent NFL action and read about former Sooners' performances on the Sunday stage in this week's report.

SoonerSports.com will provide regular updates on former OU football players who are now representing the crimson and cream in the pros. This weekly feature will recur throughout the season, updating each Monday.

Broncos at Chiefs
Dante Hall returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a score and set the tone of Kansas City's 45-17 rout of the Denver Broncos.

The Chiefs' defense sacked Jake Plummer six times and intercepted two of his passes.

One of those sacks was credited to former Sooner Jimmy Wilkerson (2000-02), who sacked Plummer for a 9-yard loss with 7:29 remaining in the game.

Wilkerson, in his second NFL season, registered three tackles to go along with his first-career sack.

William Bartee (1998-99) had two tackles.

The Chiefs host the Oakland Raiders Saturday, Dec. 25.

Texans at Bears

The Houston Texas used 17 fourth-quarter points to pummel the Chicago Bears, 24-5, in below freezing temperatures at Soldier Field.

David Carr passed for 220 yards and one touchdown and Domanick Davis rushed for 95 yards and another score in the win.

Tommie Harris (2001-03) had one tackle in Sunday's game.

Chicago next plays the Detroit Lions next Sunday, Dec. 26.

Cowboys at Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles clinched a first-round bye home field advantage throughout the playoff with their 12-7 win against the Dallas Cowboys.

The win gives Eagles' receiver Terrell Owens plenty of time to recover from his ankle sprain suffered in the third quarter after being tackled by former Soooner Roy Williams (1999-2001)

Williams had five tackles in the game and intercepted his second pass in as many weeks, returning the pick for 33 yards. The star safety was also credited with three pass deflections.

The Cowboys host the Washington Redskins next Sunday, Dec. 26.

Vikings at Lions

The Detroit Lions' botched snap on an extra point with eight seconds left lifted the Minnesota Vikings to a 28-27 victory.

Don Mulbach, the Lions' long snapper, gained instant notoriety when he bungled the extra-point snap that would have put the game into overtime.

Detroit started three former Sooners tight end Stephen Alexander (1994-97), right tackle Stockar McDougle (1998-99) and linebacker Teddy Lehman (2000-03).

Lehman led the team with 10 tackles and had one sack.

Alexander caught two passes for 22 yards.

Others in Action

Tampa Bay defensive back Corey Ivy (1995-97) made one tackle on special teams in the Bucs' 21-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

The Buccaneers host the Carolina Panthers next Sunday.

Oakland Raider Travian Smith (1994-97) had one tackle in the Raiders' 40-35 win against the Tennessee Titans in a game that featured a combined 863 yards of passing.

Colts at Ravens

Peyton Manning, now just one touchdown passes away from Dan Marino's season record, led two second-half touchdown drives as the Colts defeated Baltimore 20-10 Sunday night for their seventh straight victory.

Former OU standout defensive tackle Kelly Gregg (1995-98) had four tackles in the game.

The Ravens play again next Sunday at Pittsburgh.

Injury Bugged

Derrick Strait (2000-03) missed playing time again this week. Strait has been hampered this season by an ankle injury.

Rocky Calmus (1999-2002) underwent surgery last week to repair the torn hamstring he suffered against the Indianapolis Colts on Dec. 5. He will miss the remainder of the season.

The San Francisco 49ers placed linebacker Brandon Moore (1997-2001) on injured reserve (ankle), ending his season.

Green Bay reserve linebacker Torrance Marshall (1999-2000) was placed on the injured reserve Saturday, Nov. 27. Marshall had been nursing a torn hamstring for the Packers' two previous games.

Andre Woolfolk's (1999-2002) season ended Monday, Nov. 22, when doctors were unsuccessful in putting the defensive back's dislocated wrist back in place properly. Woolfolk underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserved by the Titans. He had 49 tackles and one interception this season.

The Broncos placed the Quentin Griffin (1999-2002) on injured reserve Wednesday, Oct. 27, after suffering a torn right anterior cruciate ligament during the second-half kickoff of a 23-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Griffin rushed for 311 yards and two touchdowns in six games this season.

Former OU tight end Trent Smith (1999-2002) was placed on the injured reserve list by the Baltimore Ravens Aug. 31 and will miss his second consecutive season after, again, breaking his leg in a preseason game. Smith broke the leg in the Ravens' first preseason game versus the Atlanta Falcons.

New York Giants' and former OU defensive tackle Martin Chase (1994-97) was also placed on the IR with a knee injury and will sit out the 2004 season.
