Peterson Feels He Has Much to Improve

NCAA Consensus All-America Team

December 18, 2004 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. -- Jammal Brown and Adrian Peterson represented the Sooners on the NCAA's consensus All-America Team released Thursday. The team is comprised of selections from five NCAA-recognized All-America teams including the Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation and The Sporting News.

Oklahoma was the only school to have two players as unanimous first-team selections by all five organizations.

Offensive tackle Jammal Brown won the 2004 Outland Trophy presented to the nation's most outstanding interior lineman. He became the fifth Outland winner from Oklahoma and the first since Greg Roberts in 1978. Brown leads the team in knockdowns and has not allowed a sack or a quarterback hurry the entire season. The 2004 Sooner offensive line has surrendered just seven sacks in 12 games.

The Lawton, Okla., native was also an All-American in 2003 and a three-time All-Big 12 Conference standout for the Sooners.

Playing against a schedule that included five ranked opponents, Adrian Peterson proved himself one of the greatest freshman rushers in the history of college football. Peterson burst onto the national scene as a true freshman at Oklahoma during the 2004 season.

The Palestine, Texas, native amassed 1,843 yards and 15 touchdowns and broke three NCAA freshman rushing records: most consecutive 100-yard rushing games (9), most total 100-yard rushing games (11) and most rushing attempts by a freshman with 314.

OU finished with five total All-Americans including Dan Cody on the FWAA team, Mark Clayton on the AFCA team and Vince Carter on the Walter Camp team. Oklahoma has had 143 All-America honors in the program's history with 21 coming under head coach Bob Stoops.
