November 08, 2004 | Softball

NORMAN, Okla. --  The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Monday afternoon that four freshmen from the Oklahoma softball team were named NFCA Scholar Athletes for their academic work during the 2003-04 school year.  Amber Spaulding, Norrelle Dickson, Jamie Fox and Stacia Aleman were recognized for sustaining a 3.5 GPA or better over the course of the academic year.

“First off let me congratulate the student-athletes on their academic prowess,” said OU head coach Patty Gasso.  “They have created a very solid foundation for this program with their work in the classroom and on the softball field.  These honors are a testament to the smooth transition they each have made from being a high school student to an accomplished college student.”

Last season the softball program had 13 athletes on the Spring Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and 12 players  on the Fall Honor Roll.  Two players, Nicole Denes and Katie Overton, also earned Academic All Big 12 honors.
