Women's Hoops Earns Preseason No. 25

NORMAN, Okla. Five teams from the Big 12 Conference appear among the nation's top 25 women's basketball programs according to the 2004-05 Preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll announced Wednesday. Earning 15 No. 1 votes and collecting 944 points was preseason No.1 Tennessee, followed by LSU's 934 points and Texas' 908 points. Connecticut was ranked No. 4, followed by Georgia (5), Duke (6) and Stanford (7). 

Big 12 opponent Baylor came in at No. 8. National power Texas Tech tied for No. 9 and Kansas State tied for No. 18 while OU was voted 25th. Ohio State tied Tech for ninth and Boston College tied K-State.

The Big 10 Conference matched the Big 12 with five teams among the top 25, followed by Southeastern Conference with four.

The Sooners are set to open their exhibition schedule Thursday against TTT Riga from Riga, Latvia at 7 p.m. inside the Lloyd Noble Center. TTT Riga defeated Wichita State, 72-60, Tuesday night in its first USA Tour game. Latvia had four players to scored 10-plus points, led by Ieva Tare's game-high 25.  WSU out rebounded TTT Riga, 44 to 40 but only shot 36.5 percent from the field to 45.3 percent by Latvia.

Single game tickets are just $5 to Thursday's exhibition game.
