Fifteen hours after beating Cal State Northridge 82-72 in its season opener, the OU men's basketball team departed Norman Sunday morning for the Great Alaska Shootout.  The Sooners survived the 14-hour trip that included brief layovers in Memphis and Minneapolis and arrived in Anchorage with Alaskan king crab waiting for them at their hotel...

Monday, Nov. 22, 2004
The Sooners practiced twice at Dimond High School on Monday -- once in the morning and once late in the afternoon.  Between workouts, team members used free time to venture through a downtown mall and grab lunch.  Following the morning practice, a moose was spotted in a residential back yard as the team bus slowed for a look...

Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004
OU worked out at Sullivan Arena in the morning before heading back to its hotel for a 90-minute study hall session.  While team members rested in the afternoon, men's basketball support staff members ventured south of Anchorage on Seward Highway.  According to the bus tour guide, it is regarded as one of the 10 most scenic highways in the United States (see photo gallery and free video below).  Before an evening practice capped the day, OU players ate dinner with other Shootout teams at an Alaskan cultural center...

Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004
The Sooners inched closer to gameday with a busy slate on Wednesday.  Following breakfast, players attended a 90-minute study hall session and then practiced for two hours at Dimond High School.  The team ate dinner, then attended the opening game of the Shootout between No. 19 Alabama and host Alaska Anchorage.  The day came to an end with a meeting in Coach Sampson's room...

Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004
It's Thanksgiving and it's also gameday!  The Sooners held a 45-minute shootaround in preparation for their 11 p.m. CST game against High Point.  Some 10 hours later, OU pocketed a 93-65 victory.  Drew Lavender and Jaison Williams talked about the win...

OU played a semifinals game against No. 22 Washington and, despite 22 points from Kevin Bookout, the Sooners came out on the short end of a 96-91 score...

The Sooners rebounded from a loss to No. 22 Washington by playing stellar second-half basketball against Minnesota.  OU, which led by as many as 24, beat the Gophers 67-54 and finished the Great Alaska Shootout in third place...
