NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma football team practiced in the Everest Indoor Facility on Monday afternoon in preparation for Saturday's game at Kansas State.
OU improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 Conference action with a 12-0 shutout of rival Texas in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Saturday. K-State lost at Kansas, 31-28, -- the Wildcats' first loss to the Jayhawks since 1992.
Oklahoma leads the series 66-17-4, including a 32-10-1 advantage in Manhattan. Last season, OU and K-State met in the Big 12 Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City and the Wildcats prevailed, 35-7. That victory snapped a three-game winning streak for the Sooners in the series.
Sooner Gameday Central: Kansas State | Game Notes
This will mark Oklahoma's first trip to KSU Stadium since the 2000 season when it pulled out a 41-31 victory there. That same year, OU topped K-State in the Big 12 title game, also in Kansas City, enroute to a seventh national championship.
The following are quotes from Bob Stoops and Adrian Peterson following Monday's practice:
Head Coach Bob Stoops
On Big 12 Player of the Week honors:
"(Jonathan Jackson) is really playing well. He had an excellent game (against Texas) -- as did a lot of other defensive players. Same for Adrian (Peterson). He really ran strong and powerful -- making big plays. Again, you don't get a lot of that without the guys up front doing all the dirty work for you -- and he knows that. There were a lot of guys blocking well -- including receivers."
On attitude of developing run game:
"It's an attitude that's been coming for maybe three or four years. We've constantly been working and doing our best to get stronger and more powerful in the run game. I don't know if it's ever strong enough -- you're constantly working it. It's really complimented the fact that we can still throw awfully well and I think it just makes it more difficult to stop both."
On receivers:
"They're strong guys and physical. They're taking a lot of pride in (blocking for the running game) as well."
Running Back Adrian Peterson
On his experience at the Texas game:
"The ride there was something. All the OU fans cheering and you look over and see the Texas fans. It was a good experience. It was cool to run down the tunnel."
On showing up on Heisman lists:
"I really don't pay any attention to it. People tell me about it -- people calling from my home town. It's crazy. I just think it's cool, that's all. It's something I've thought about -- way in the back of my head."
On being named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week:
"I didn't really know until today when Coach told me. I think that it's a great honor but I guess I just look at it as a compliment."
His thoughts on performing against Texas:
"I've thought about it a little bit. I thought I had a pretty good game. It could have been a little bit better, I feel."
On what he wants to improve on:
"Oh, everything. It's every little thing. When the game's going on, you think everything's good but when you watch film -- sit down and look at everything -- you see the mistakes that you made. (Ball security) is real important -- keeping the ball tucked in. The coaches stress it to everybody."
