Baylor Coach Guy Morriss:
"We lost to a good Missouri team and just couldn't find any rhythm on offense last week. We need to press forward, keep a good attitude, get the ball to (RB) Paul Mosley a little more, and be ready to play in a loud atmosphere at Nebraska. They will have plenty of Husker fans there to cheer on the team. Mosley makes some mental mistakes, and we have a good running back in Anthony Krieg. We just have to find a way to compensate for some of those mistakes or missed assignments. Some of our defensive players are becoming more vocal leaders, and they have been making big plays. A lot of times it's just a matter of timing, and we definitely need to execute better at Nebraska."
Colorado Coach Gary Barnett:
"The Oklahoma State was one of the most bizarre games we have played. We made some strange mistakes, had 78 plays on offense to 55 for OSU and averaged five yards a play on first down. We have to bounce back against Iowa State, but we are getting better and need to cut out the mistakes and cover people. James Cox has come along much better at quarterback. ISU has made some mistakes the last few weeks, but so have we. We need to get back out there and work at it. (QB) Joel Klatt will not practice Monday, but we'll look at him throughout the week and make a decision later about his starting status."
Iowa State Coach Dan McCarney:
"We were disappointed in the outcome of the game with Texas A&M. We have another great challenge at Colorado. They (Buffaloes) got off to a tremendous start and then lost to two teams both ranked in the Top 25 in Big 12 play. We are looking forward to the television exposure (FSN) and a chance to play another tough conference opponent. There's so much football to play that it's hard to compare the Big 12 North and South. I don't think anyone on the North is ready to concede anything. It's cyclical in this conference and around the country. We have made progress offense and ran 85 plays with no penalties against A&M. We just didn't execute inside the 20."
Kansas Coach Mark Mangino:
"It was a great win. Nick Reid made 11 tackles, and Banks Floodman was all over the field in the victory over Kansas State. We were more opportunistic on offense, and the defense has been swarming. That's what we like to see. Our offense and defense are playing well, and our special teams are continuing to give us great field position. The week off this year at this time comes at a good time for us. We can heal some bumps and bruises, rest mentally, get re-energized, and get a couple of extra days of practice for Oklahoma. I want to see how both our quarterbacks react in practice this week."
Kansas State Coach Bill Snyder:
"Kansas played very well against us. They were well prepared, played hard and showed a great deal of poise. We have not been a poised football team at times and have made too many mistakes in the kicking game. Oklahoma is a team that will test the character of our football team. They have as good a team as I have seen in a long time. It doesn't leave much when OU's defense takes away both sides of your offense (13 points by Texas Tech and shutout against Texas in last two games). Oklahoma has cover guys who are great, and they run so well at every position. It's excellent speed, but it is controlled and disciplined speed."
Missouri Coach Gary Pinkel:
"We're in the process of getting preparations for Texas, and we know what kind of great team they have. It's hard to draw comparisons between (QB) Brad Smith and (QB) Vince Young of Texas. Brad is a year older and a third-year starter, but Vince is a great athlete. We continue to attempt to run the football better and to improve the passing game. At this point, we're not good enough to have any other focus than Texas. We can't look at the standings. It's too early in the season. I'm responsible for every player in our program, and that includes Brad Smith. We'll try to develop him and make the best quarterback he can be. He's an athlete."
Nebraska Coach Bill Callahan:
"We want to put the Texas Tech game out of our minds and get ready for Baylor. We have given our quarterbacks a certain amount of snaps and are constantly evaluating each position in practice and on game tapes. We will get better and have a lot football ahead of us this year. I assured the team we have a lot of resolve and are going to play better. All our quarterbacks help each other and have a good understanding and appreciation for each other. We are competitive people at Nebraska, and we have a lot to get done as we move forward. We look forward to playing another Big 12 team and are focusing totally on our preparations for Baylor."
Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops:
"It was another good victory, a well-played game and a good atmosphere down at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. I like the way we played with power running of the football on offense against a great defensive team. I still feel we are capable of throwing the ball. We still have a long way to go, and we realize that Kansas State is the team that beat us in the Big 12 Championship last year. We need to play with more focus against them this year on the road. We will see whether we start Kejuan Jones or Adrian Peterson at running back (against KSU) by how it goes in practice before the game."
Oklahoma State Coach Les Miles:
"Our team is playing well and getting better. We look forward to seeing a very good Texas A&M team at Boone Pickens Stadium this week. A&M has a quarterback, running back and wide receivers who can play the game, and we have to stop them defensively. (QB) Donovan Woods is coming along every day, and he's doing some things that can't be seen to improve. He gives us the opportunity to win. The younger guys have stepped up, have come here and played early and have made key contributions. This has helped recruiting and the turnover of the three great skill players (QB Josh Fields, WR Rashaun Woods, RB Tatum Bell) from last season."
Texas Coach Mack Brown:
"The atmosphere around the Texas-Oklahoma game was fantastic. The fans were fabulous, and we had No. 2 and No. 5 going at it on national television. OU made the critical plays in the power running game, but we were even on turnovers. We can't sit around and mope because Missouri only gives up 98 rushing yards a game, 12.6 points per game and is leading the Big 12 North at 2-0. We'll have to throw the ball better and spread out the field against Missouri. We haven't lost back-to-back games at Texas since 1999, and the players and coaches have a lot of pride. We have great respect for Big 12 opponents, and we have played six of the last seven games on the road the week after Oklahoma."
Texas A&M Coach Dennis Franchione:
"It was nice for us to go on the road and get a victory. We kept Iowa State out of the end zone. There's still a long way to go in this season, but it is good to be acknowledged in the Top 25. We have a very tough game against another Top 25 team on the road at Oklahoma State. We respect every opponent, and our players look at every tape and see what the people across the ball from them can do. Oklahoma State is averaging almost 300 yards rushing (285.2) per game and winning the field position and time of possession battles. (Vernand) Morency gets almost 200 (173.8, No. 1 nationally) rushing yards a game, and that's hard to defend."
Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach:
"We'll practice pretty this week with normal practices and get ready to face Texas next week. We need more home games after playing four of five on the roads. We seem to get into a good rhythm at our place, and things have just happened. Every game I have been in, I have myself talked into thinking we can win. We just want to play well and with a lot of energy. Beating a team like Nebraska with one of the great traditions in college football is what you strive for in your program. In the off week I won't absorb into a television but will probably just cruise and look at scores. We had good practices the last few weeks leading up to games."
