Three Sooners are in Mobile, Ala., this week to participate in Senior Bowl practices and evaluation by NFL scouts. Brandon Everage, Teddy Lehman and Derrick Strait will play for the North squad in the game scheduled for Saturday, January 24, at 4 p.m.
Players and coaches began arriving Sunday in Mobile.
Both squads will hold their first practice session from 2:45 to 4:15 today. The South will practice at UMS-Wright in Mobile and the North at Fairhope Municipal Stadium in Fairhope, Ala.. Each squad will hold one practice per day throughout Senior Bowl Week.
2004 Senior Bowl | Sooners in the NFL
Last year, OU's Andre Woolfolk played for the South and was drafted in the first round by the Tennessee Titans. Six additional Sooners have played in the game since 2000 including Rocky Calmus, Brandon Moore, Torrance Marshall, Stockar McDougle, Matt O'Neal and William Bartee.
Since Bob Stoops' first season in Norman in 1999, 24 OU players have gone on to sign NFL contracts including three first round draft picks: Andre Woolfolk (2003), Roy Williams (2002) and Stockar McDougle (2000).
Ninety-five of America's top senior NFL draft prospects will take part in this year's game week festivities, which will also be attended by over 700 National Football League general managers, head coaches, scouts and other front office personnel.
The Senior Bowl is the only contest in the nation which features the top NFL draft prospects on teams coached by the entire coaching staffs of two National Football League teams. San Diego Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer and his staff will coach this year's Senior Bowl South squad, while Marvin Lewis and his Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff will coach the North team.
The Senior Bowl annually feature rosters made up of the nation's top senior draft prospects. The 2003 contest featured 14 future first-round selections in the NFL Draft, including the first player selected overall in quarterback Carson Palmer, and 86 total draftees.
The 55th annual Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday, January 24, with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m. The contest will be nationally-televised by ESPN.
