Oklahoma placed 10 men's gymnasts in individual competition at the Rocky Mountain Open in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Saturday. The individual events came a day after the two-time defending National Champion Sooners took first in the team finals on Friday.

Friday's Team Recap

OU was led by junior Josh Gore who finished third on the Parallel Bars with a score of 9.35, a new career high for the Texas native.  Sophomore James Myers also recorded a solid score for OU.  Myers scored a 9.200 (career high) on the high bar, good enough for fourth place.

Daniel Furney, competing for the OU club team, placed first on the Pommel Horse with a score of 9.25.

Every gymnast who competed for OU in the team event on Friday also competed in the six individual events on Saturday. Ten Sooners finished in the top six to place bringing hardware back from the Rocky Mountain Open.

"I think we still had some ill effects of a difficult day of travel the day before," said Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams.  "We had a number of guys finish in the top ten, which is encouraging, but we need to be more consistent.  This early in the season it is not a big concern, but we look forward to and expect to do better next weekend in our home opener."

On Friday in other individual results, Heath Mueller took first in the collegiate division for the all-around with a score of 52.850 and Jamie Henderson was fifth (50.650).  Also finishing in the all-around was assistant coach Guard Young.  Young was competing with Furney on the club team and scored a 53.325, good for fourth among the open division.

OU will return to action on Friday, January 23 for the home opener against the Air Force Academy.  The defending champs will host the Falcons at the Lloyd Noble Center with action getting started at 7 p.m.  The meet will also feature the Sooner women, also hosting their first home meet against the Air Force Academy.
