Sooner offensive tackle Jammal Brown joins Pasha Jackson with his own journal to take Sooner fans behind the scenes as OU plays its 2003 season. Brown gives us his perspective from the offensive side of the team.
This is the first installment of his weekly journal. We've also added a link so you can submit your own questions for Jammal to respond to in his next entry.

Journal Entry No. 1 (Sept. 25, 2003)
I'll give you a little background on myself to get started. I live with Brandon Jones and Donta Hickson. I chose to live with Brandon but Donta just kind of ended up with us (laughs).
Last Friday night, we all went to the movie as a team. We always get three choices so me, Brett and Davin went to see "Matchstick Men". It was pretty good. Going to see the movies kind of get our minds off the game -- we can just relax. But -- even during the movie -- I'll get a play that runs through my head. Can't get away from it completely.
We stay in a hotel Friday night to get away from all the distractions. You can stay to yourself and just have time to think. I usually go back to my room and go over my playbook. I'll watch a little TV and then go to bed. I always light a couple candles. My room's gotta smell good (laughs).
I get up on Saturday morning and go to John Flynn's room every time and get toothpaste. I just never bring my own. We'd be in trouble if Flynn ever ran out. He always answers the door and there's just hair everywhere. He's just like, "WHAT?". He's half-asleep but he still gives me some toothpaste. I go back to my room and shower, then I go to chapel.
That's always interesting. You think about why you're really playing football and who it's really for. After that, we have a little time and then we eat our team meal. I never eat. I drink these little meal shakes. I can't eat before a game. Most big guys like me chow down -- but I can't do it. I watch a little football on TV, then I pray for about five minutes.
As we head over to the stadium, I listen to my CD player. I listen to old music -- like what my Pops listens to. Curtis Mayfield, a little Al Green -- stuff like that. It just motivates me. Then it's game time. We come up here, get dressed and get after it. Seeing all those little kids as we come down the ramp -- it's a good feeling. It just reminds me how blessed I am. I mean, I'm just a regular guy but to them, I'm somebody special. It just makes me appreciate things.
The UCLA game was the first game my daughter got to come to. She was really excited. We played well, I thought I played well. Perk (Antonio Perkins) couldn't have played better. It was a great game. UCLA had some big guys on defense. We scored a lot of points -- thanks to Antonio, too. It was just fun.
After the game, I got to see everyone in the stands but you've got to hurry back to the locker room. I got dressed and went to the Red Room (for post-game interviews). After that, I came out into the crowd and saw my daughter and all the fans. I'm tired but you've got to do it. You want to represent OU really well.
After that, I go back to the house. I usually have someone record the game for me so I can watch it. That's when I chow down. I'm usually starving. I watch the tape of the game and prepare myself for Monday. I watch for my mistakes and try to get some excuses ready (laughs).
This is our first off-weekend in a while. I'm going to go back to Lawton and just stay with my family. I just want to relax and be a regular guy. I just want to watch TV all day. We really haven't had a free Saturday since summer time. Until next time, Go Sooners!
