Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops made some important announcements regarding this weekend's game against UCLA at the end of Thursday's practice.
Stoops made his decision known to start sophomore Wayne Chambers at the middle linebacker spot in place of teammate Lance Mitchell who sustained a knee injury in last week's 52-28 win over Fresno State. Senior linebacker Teddy Lehman will remain at the weakside position where he has started the last two years.
Chambers entered this season listed as the backup to Mitchell at the middle linebacker position on the preseason depth chart and has been practicing in the role throughout the week. He has yet to see any action in any of the Sooners' three contests this season due to a minor injury, but saw regular playing time in a backup role and on special teams as a true freshman last year. The Grandview, Mo., native finished the 2002 season with 13 tackles (9 solo), including two tackles for loss, in 10 games.
Stoops also reported that sophomore tight end Chris Chester suffered an injury during Wednesday's practice and will not be available for Saturday's game. In addition, he also indicated that the injury could possibly keep Chester out for the next couple of weeks.
