Women's Golfers Finish in Fourth Place at NCAA Fall Preview

NORMAN, Okla. Playing against a stellar field in its first tournament of the fall, the University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished in an impressive fourth place with a score of 888 (+24) at the NCAA Fall Preview in Auburn, Ala. The Sooners recorded a 296 for the third consecutive day and finished 11 strokes behind tournament champion Duke, which defeated Auburn in a playoff for the title. The 18-team field played at the 6,215-yard, par-72 Grand National Lake Golf Course.

Leading the way for OU was senior Lisa Meldrum who carded a final-round 70 (-2) and earned second-place honors with a total of 214 (-2). Senior Hope Edge tied for 18th place after shooting a 75 (+3) for a tournament total of 220 (+4). Sophomore Amparo Gala recorded a 76 (+4) and tied for 36th with 227 (+11) total strokes. Junior Emily Milberger posted a final-round 75 (+3) and tied for 56th with a total of 233 (+17) while sophomore Cathryn Uselton finished tied for 83rd after shooting an 88 (+16) Sunday for a three-round total of 246 (+30).

The NCAA Fall Preview consisted of 17 nationally ranked teams, including the top 11 in the country. The tournament was played at the same course that the 2004 National Championships will be held in the spring.

The Sooners, who finished ahead of Big 12 rivals Oklahoma State and Texas, will return to action Sept. 27-28 at the Lady Northern Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
