Sooners Finish Day Two of Practices

August 07, 2003 | Football

The second football practice of the 2003 is in the books for Oklahoma.  The Sooners completed a two and one-half hour workout Thursday morning at the OU Intramural Fields.

The workout included a variety of drills and no injuries.

Following the practice, OU head coach Bob Stoops announced that Friday's practice time has been moved.  Rather than practice in the morning, the team will go from 2-4:30 p.m.  The change will allow team members the opportunity to attend the funeral for Kathie Runnels, the late mother of OU fullback J.D. Runnels.  Mrs. Runnels passed away Thursday following an illness.

Here are Stoops' comments after Thursday's practice ...

On Jason White: He looked great again.  Jason looks wonderful.  Hes very sharp and very accurate.  It appears to me that hes having a good time.

On the Punters: They look pretty good.  Its a little early, but they seem to be hitting it better.

On the Freshmen: The freshman, what a great group.  It is really an exceptional group.  Akim Millington really sticks out as having an excellent chance of playing this year.  The receivers look solid.  Those guys can run.  Tristan Ross is very precise in his routes.  The defensive backs, Tony Cade and Darien Williams are going to be really good.  Tony has a chance to play this year.  Joe Jon Finley has been very impressive.  Hes put on about 20 pounds training here this summer.  He runs incredibly well for a tight end and has excellent hands.  Joe Jon is going to be an excellent player.  Willie Roberts just needs to get in better shape, but several of them do.
