Monsen In The Sports Illustrated Crowd

August 22, 2003 | Volleyball

Oklahoma volleyball freshman setter Anna Monsen is featured in the Faces In The Crowd section of the current Sports Illustrated.  Monsen earned the recognition for her track and field accomplishments while at Stoughton High School in Wisconsin.  The freshman setter became the first woman  to win four consecutive Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association titles in the 100-meter dash.

Monsen won the 2003 title in 12.28 seconds, despite an injured hamstring.  She was also a two-time 200-meter state champion and runner-up at the 2002 state finals in the long jump.  The three-sport prep star was All-State in volleyball and all-conference in basketball as a senior.

Monsen is expected to backup senior setter Kelly McCarter and may also see action at libero or defensive specialist.

The OU volleyball team is hosting its annual Red-White Scrimmage Saturday at 2 p.m., inside the Howard McCasland Field House.  The regular season begins on Aug. 29 against Washington State in the Cougar Classic.
