Sooner Football Goes Retro For Morning Practice

The Oklahoma football team donned elements of the retro-uniforms that they will be wearing during the season opener at the morning practice on Wednesday. The team wore the white helmets and black cleats from the 1950's Bud Wilkinson era during the two hour workout in order to break in the new equipment before next weekend's home game against North Texas.

Sooner head coach Bob Stoops, wearing modern clothes and not the 1970's-1980's Barry Switzer attire he will be sporting in the first game, was pleased with his team's effort the morning after the squad's final scrimmage.

"Rarely am I not pleased with our effort and intensity. Our guys came out today, even though its been a long two-a-days and we just finished the scrimmage, and still had a real strong, physical practice and responded well."

Stoops reflected upon the offense's performance from Tuesday night's scrimmage at Owen Field, one in which senior quarterback Jason White threw three touchdowns of which two were caught by sophomore wide receiver Jejuan Rankins.

"I felt even in the other ones (scrimmages) that we were progressing and making improvement and they did again yesterday. Again, going against a defense that's seasoned every single day that's pretty darn good and its hard to assess their progress," said Stoops.

The team will hold another practice session this evening at the OU Intramural Fields beginning at 6 p.m.
