Sooners Hold Closed Workout, Ready For Third Scrimmage

Fourteen practices into the 2003 preseason drills, Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops decided his team needed a little privacy. Monday evening's workout was the first of this campaign that was closed to the public as the Sooners completed two hours worth of drills at the practice field adjacent to Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

OU will be back on public display Tuesday night with its third scrimmage. It will likely be the final scrimmage prior to the Aug. 30 opener against North Texas. Stoops said his team will hold a standard practice for the first 30-45 minutes with the actual scrimmage beginning around 6:30 p.m.

The scrimmage will take place in the stadium and is open to the public. No admission is charged.

Here are Stoops' quotes following Monday night's practice ...

On the closed practice: "We were just working on some different situations. No need for everybody to watch it all of the time. Just special situations."

On the health of the team: "Fortunately, knock on wood, there isn't anything too serious. Everybody should be back by next week or by the end of this week. We usually are pretty careful in how we strike each other by staying high. It's been physical. We would like to think we're smart about it. We've been fortunate, the nicks we have haven't been real serious."
