Morning Practice Complete, Evening Practice To Be Closed

Oklahoma's footbally team endured steamy conditions to complete a two-hour practice Monday morning.  Following the workout, Sooner head coach Bob Stoops said the evening practice will be closed to the public and media.

Monday morning's practice concluded with the offense working on a variety of schemes.  Wide receiver Jejuan Rankins was particulary impressive catching several deep balls from quarterback Jason White.

After 11 consecutive days of practice, OU was off on Sunday.  The Sooners will practice just once on Tuesday with a 6 p.m., scrimmage at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.  The scrimmage is open to the public and there is no admission charge.

Here are Bob Stoops' comments following the morning practice ...

On the day off:
"It helped.  We reviewed the tape and made some corrections."

On the morning practice:
"It was very physical like usual for us.  Everybody's healthy and seems to be doing well

On walk-on H-back Dan Townsend:
"He's a tough guy who runs well.  He's a physical, hard-playing guy.  He's doing a good job.  He gets better and better.  He just needs to continue to add some size and strength and as he does that he has a chance to help us here."

On WR Jejuan Rankins:
"Jejuan is a good player.  We felt that all along.  He needs to continue to just get strong.  As he does, he's a guy who has a chance to make some plays."
