Sooners Wind Down Week With Lone Morning Session

Sooners Wind Down Week With Lone Morning Session

August 14, 2003 | Football

The Oklahoma football team began to wind down its first full week of two-a-days with a single practice Thursday morning at the OU Intramural fields. The workout began later in the morning, starting at approximately 8:30 a.m., and lasted another two hours and 15 minutes. Weight room sessions and team and position meetings were on the players' schedules for the remainder of the day.

The squad will return to its final two-a-day practice of the week tomorrow with the morning practice planned for 7:45-10 a.m. and the afternoon workout going from 6-8:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Sooners will cap off the week with their second scrimmage of the preseason in Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium at 6 p.m.

Head coach Bob Stoops touched upon a couple of topics in his post-practice talk with the media. Here's a few of his comments:

On the scout team's impact:

"It's a big factor. Offensively and defensively, when you see speed and when you see the other team's offense or defense it makes a big difference in your preparation and in working to improve. Those guys are a major factor in making the team ready."

On freshman quarterback Tommy Grady's progress in his first two practices:

"He's got a lot of catching up to do, but he'll do it. We'll see how it goes."

On senior linebacker Teddy Lehman's maturity over the years:

"I see the maturity, the experience, the recognition of plays. He's very bright and smart and he sees and understands what's happening before it does. The offense chuckles when they line up because he knows what's coming half the time. Teddy's just so smart and more sure of himself and he's been a great leader."
