A crowd estimated at 10,000 looked on Tuesday night as Oklahoma completed its first scrimmage of the 2003 preseason drills. The Sooners worked out for nearly two hours under the Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium lights.
"I feel good about it," OU head coach Bob Stoops said after watching the 92-play practice. "It was good physical play. I didn't expect it to be perfect. If it was, we wouldn't have much to do for the next two weeks. We have a lot of work to do, but there were some very encouraging signs. We'll build on that."
The Sooners punched in four offensive touchdowns. Jerad Estus got the first on a three-yard run that capped a nine-play, 70-yard drive. The next score was the most spectacular of the night. Jason White connected with Mark Clayton, who eluded two tacklers and sprinted to the end zone on the 41-yard play.

J.D. Runnels got the next TD on a 22-yard pass reception from White during red zone drills. Jerad Estus tacked on another during that same time with a seven-yard run.
White, who took nearly all of the snaps with the first unit, completed 10-of-20 passes for 151 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, a tipped ball that LB Teddy Lehman returned 38 yards for a touchdown. Back-up QB Paul Thompson was 11-of-20 for 62 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
"Jason threw a lot of nice balls," Stoops said. "He had a few mistakes that he can learn from. That's why we scrimmage."
Fourteen different receivers had at least one catch. Clayton's three receptions went for 56 yards.
Estus topped the ground gainers with 40 yards on six carries. Jacob Gutierrez logged seven rushes for 27, while Donta Hickson had six for 21 and Kejuan Jones nine for 19. Jones' carries all came against the stingy first-team defense.
"The offense is at a tremendous disadvantage," said Stoops. "At this point, we haven't worked on other offenses. Our defense is so used to our offense and that makes it hard."
WR Will Peoples (knee) and FS Brandon Everage (shoulder) both left the scrimmage with injuries. Stoops said early indications were that neither was serious, although both will undergo further evaluation.
OU is back to two-a-day practices on Wednesday. The next scrimmage is Saturday at 6 p.m., at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. There is no admission charge for that workout and it is open to the public.
