NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma gymnasts Heath Mueller and Daniel Furney, as well as assistant mens gymnastics coach Guard Young will be coming to a local NBC affiliate near you. The trio, who competed at the USA Gymnastics Championships in Milwaukee, Wis. on June 20 and 22, will be among the competitors when the event airs on NBC, Saturday, Aug. 2, from 2:30-4 p.m. Mueller finished 25th, Furney landed at No. 16, while Young finished with an impressive seventh place showing.
In other new relating to the Oklahoma gymnastics program, Furney has decided to pull out of the World University Games due to a recent knee injury. Furney had planned to travel to Daegu, Korea for the 11 day festival, which takes place Aug. 21-31. Furneys loss turned out to be Muellers gain, as he was named the teams first alternate today. The competition will be the largest international meet of Muellers amateur career and a springboard for his senior campaign in 2004.
