NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma senior Brett Covey finished second on the still rings at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Saskatoon, Canada last weekend. Covey competed on parallel bars, high bar and rings, with his best performance coming on rings where he scored 9.65. Thanks to his solid performance, Covey is a candidate for the Pan American Games Canadian Team, which travels to the Dominican Republic for the competition beginning August 1.
"Its an honor to compete on a national stage like that," said OU senior Brett Covey. "It was a great competition and experience for me. Making the Pan Am Games is a goal of mine and it would be a great honor to represent my country abroad."
Oklahoma All-Americans Daniel Furney and Heath Mueller, as well as assistant coach Guard Young are training for the USA Championships. Furney and Young have competed in the national championships before, while Mueller will be making his debut. The USA Championships will take place June 20-22.
