Women Golfers In Fifth At NCAA Central Regional

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team is in fifth place with a score of 606 at the NCAA Central Regional in Lincoln, Neb. The eighth-seeded Sooners shot a first round 302 and a second-round 304 after inclement weather cancelled the first round on Thursday. Oklahoma trails tournament leader, California, by 22 strokes.

Leading the way for the Sooners is junior Lisa Meldrum who is tied for fifth after shooting a 73 and 72, respectively. Meldrum's total of 145 (+3) is only five strokes behind leader Vikki Laing of California. Senior Allison Johnson is tied for 17th after a first-round 74 and a second-round 75 for a total of 149 (+7). Junior Hope Edge and freshman Amparo Gala are both tied for 55th after carding a two-round score of 157 (+15). Sophomore Emily Milberger rounds out the Sooner quintet with a total of 159 (+17) and is tied for 68th.

The tournament is being played at the 6,023-yard, par-71 Firethorn Golf Club. The final 18 holes will be played Saturday. The top eight teams qualify to play at the NCAA Championships, May 20-23 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
