Women's Golfers In First Place At Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team shot the best first and second round scores of the day and are in first place with a 604 at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. The women's golf team is hosting the tournamet held in Norman, Okla., at the 5,910-yard, par-72, Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course.

Three Sooners are in the top four heading into the final round. Leading the pack today was sophomore Emily Milberger who shot a 73, the lowest round of the day, and a 77 for 150 total strokes. Milberger trails tournament leader Kim Kolb (Texas Tech) by one stroke. Freshman Amparo Gala recorded a first-round 77 and a second-round 74 and is in third place with a 151. Junior Lisa Meldrum is tied for fourth after carding a 76 in consecutive rounds for a total of 152. Senior Allison Johnson shot a 75 in the first round and an 80 in the second and is tied for eighth with a 155. Junior Hope Edge rounds out the Sooner quintet and is tied for 20th with a 160 after recording an 84 in the first round and a 76 in the second.

Four Sooners competed as individuals in the tournament. Freshman Erin Goranson is tied for 12th after shooting an 81 in the first round and a career-best 77 in the second round for a total of 158. Freshman Cathryn Uselton is tied for 60th with a 169 while sophomore Jenni Nimmo is tied for 78th after a two-round score of 178. Freshman Marie Turner, playing in her first collegiate tournament, is in 87th place with 188 total strokes.

The play of the day came from Baylor's Melanie Hagewood who recorded a hole-in-one on the 196-yard, par-3, sxith hole into a brisk north wind. Hagewood is currently tied for fourth heading into the final round with a 152 (+8)

Final round play will start Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
