Womens Golf Set to Compete In Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - The OU women's golf team will host its annual Susie Maxwell Berning Classic tournament April 7-8. The tournament is being played at the 5,910-yard, par-72 Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course in Norman, Okla.

The two-day event will be formatted with 36 holes played Monday and 18 holes played Tuesday. Both days will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

Competing for the Sooners will be junior Hope Edge, senior Allison Johnson, freshman Amparo Gala, junior Lisa Meldrum and sophomore Emily Milberger. Sophomore Jenni Nimmo and freshmen Erin Goranson, Marie Turner and Cathryn Uselton will be competing as individuals.

The 16-team field will consist of Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Lamar, North Texas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UTEP and Wichita State.

The Sooners are looking to defend their title they won last year at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. The team ran away from the rest of last year's field with a 33-stroke win. The Sooners had two team members place in the top five. Lisa Meldrum won the tournament title by 8 strokes (211) and Hope Edge tied for fourth (223).

Oklahoma Claims Fourth Place at Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational
The Sooners received fourth-place honors at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational held March 23-25 in Austin, Texas. The team recorded a 936 while tournament champion Oklahoma State's total was 896. The 12-team field played at the 6,246-yard, par-72 Hills Country Club.

Leading the Sooners was freshman Amparo Gala, who recorded a career-best 70 in the final round for a tournament total of 225 to earn fourth-place honors. Junior Lisa Meldrum's three-round total of 234 tied her for 13th place. Junior Hope Edge recorded a 239 to tie for 26th. Senior Allison Johnson and sophomore Emily Milberger both tied for 33rd with a tournament total of 245. Freshman Cathryn Uselton competed as an individual and recorded a 260 to tie for 62nd place.

Coach Ludvigson Says...
"This tournament is always a good launching pad into postseason play. We are hoping for a team win as well as an individual win. I'm hoping this will be the beginning of our peak for the end of the season. I'm hoping this will build our confidence for the Big 12 Tournament because five of those teams will be competing in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic."
