Furney And Landis Receive Weekly Awards

NORMAN, Okla. - Senior Daniel Furney and Josh Landis were named NCAA Gymnast of the Week and NCAA Midwest Gymnast of the Week, respectively, by Inside Gymnastics Magazine. Furney has received the NCAA's top weekly honor four times this season, more than any other gymnast. The Nissen Emery Award Finalist has racked up nine weekly awards this season. Landis has received the NCAA Midwest honor on three occasions, while also garnering the MPSF award on Feb. 10.

Both gymnasts played an instrumental part in the Sooners record breaking fifth consecutive MPSF Championship last weekend.

Landis took the MPSF pommel horse title and was runner up on floor. Furney won the conference all-around championship and was named MPSF Gymnast of the Year.

The men's gymnastics program received more good news Tuesday, when the NCAA seedings were announced. As expected, OU received the top seeding and will compete in the evening session of the NCAA Team Qualifiers on Friday, April 11, beginning at approximately 7 p.m. (EST). No. 4 California, No. 5 Michigan, No. 8 Illinois, No. 10 Nebraska and No. 11 Temple are also in the second session. In the first qualifying session is No. 2 Penn State, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 6 Iowa, No. 7 Minnesota, No. 8 Stanford and No. 12 William & Mary. The top three teams from each session advance to the NCAA Finals which begin at 4 p.m., April 12.
