The OU women's golf team is headed to Austin to compete in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational March 23-25. The tournament is being played at The Hills Country Club.
The three-day event will be formatted with 18 holes played each day. Sunday's start will begin at 10 a.m. and Monday and Tuesday play will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Competing for the Sooners will be junior Hope Edge, senior Allison Johnson, freshman Amparo Gala, junior Lisa Meldrum and sophomore Emily Milberger. Freshman Cathryn Uselton will be competing as an individual.
The 12-team field will consist of No. 4-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 7 Texas, No. 20 Ohio State, No. 23 Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, SMU, Texas A&M and UNLV.
Coach Ludvigson Says...
"We have been improving and playing better as a team. This tournament will have good competition that will include Big 12 teams and Central Region teams. Our goal is to play well and come home with a team victory and an individual victory. I am also really excited about the play of Amparo Gala and Emily Milberger who have been putting in some good low rounds when we needed our fourth and fifth spots to come through. They have done just what we needed them to do."
Oklahoma Finishes Sixth at SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational
The Sooners placed sixth at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational held March 9-11 in Gainesville, Fla. The team recorded a 906, their second-best total of the season. Tournament host and champion University of Florida recorded an 873. The 16-team field played at the 6,70-yard, par-70 University Golf Course.
Junior Lisa Meldrum led the Sooner squad with a 223 and tied for 12th place. Senior Allison Johnson's three-round total of 226 tied her for 22nd place. Freshman Amparo Gala recorded a 228 to tied for 26th while sophomore Emily Milberger's 229 tied her for 34th place. Rounding out the scoring for the Sooners was junior Hope Edge who tied for 62nd place with 237 total strokes.
