OU Men's Tennis Falls To No. 54 Texas Tech

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team lost their fist Big 12 match of the season to No. 54 Texas Tech, 6-1, Saturday at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas. The Sooners drop to 8-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while the Red Raiders improve to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference.

OU started strong, claiming the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) beat Devin Wakeford and Diederik de Groot, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. That victory pushes their record to 5-0 at No. 1 doubles and 12-2 overall. Senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore Brad Prigmore (Wichita Falls, Texas) secured the doubles point with a 8-5 win over Tech's Michael Innerebner and Jonathan John.

Texas Tech took control in singles play claiming all six matches in straight sets. OU sophomore Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) fought hard but lost two tie-breakers to John Walker, 7-6, 7-6. Sooner senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) fell in straight sets to No. 97 Alfonso Perez, 6-2, 6-2.

The Sooners return home for a rematch with regional foe Oral Roberts on Saturday, March 7. OU beat the Golden Eagles, 6-1, in their first meeting back on Feb. 13. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.
