BEAUMONT, Texas - Junior lefthander Buddy Blair turned in a solid pitching performance as the 29th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners downed No. 22 Ohio State, 5-1, Saturday afternoon in their second contest of the Lamar Tournament of Champions. Oklahoma produced a consistent offensive effort by generating 10 hits and rode the hot bat of junior third baseman Jay Yaconetti who hit a two-run homer for the third consecutive game. The Sooners improve to 5-1 on the year and remain the only undefeated team in the tournament. The Buckeyes fall to 1-1 with their first loss of the season.

Blair held OSU to five hits and one run while striking out a career-high six batters in six innings to even his record at 1-1. Junior righty Mike Swindell finished off the final three frames for his first career save. Swindell no-hit the Buckeyes and struck out four during his outing.

The Sooners sprinted out to an early lead and spotted Blair a run to work with in the top of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Matt Arkison (1-for-4) started things off by reaching second base on a two-base error by the Buckeyes' third baseman. Senior center fielder Reggie Willits (2-for-4) then doubled down the left field line in the next at bat to plate Arkison.

In the third inning, sophomore catcher Matt Bose (1-for-3) delivered a two-out base hit to score senior second baseman Eddie Cornejo (2-for-3), who earlier had singled and moved to second on a balk.

OSU starter Josh Newman (0-1) committed a second balk in the fifth frame to advance Arkison home from third base which accounted for OU's third run of the game. Following the balked in run, Cornejo collected his second single and scored on Yaconetti's shot to left field to give Oklahoma a commanding 5-0 lead.

A leadoff double by OSU designated hitter Paul Farinacci (1-for-4) in the sixth inning led OSU's lone run when he scored two batters later on a fielder's choice by shortstop Brett Garrard (1-for-3).

The Sooners close out their tournament slate tomorrow versus host school Lamar. The game, originally scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., will now start 40 minutes following the conclusion of the first game which is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Game times have been altered to accomodate team travel arrangements.
