NORMAN, Okla.- The No. 5 Iowa Hawkeyes were the 23rd straight collegiate victim to fall at the hands of the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team, Friday night at the Lloyd Noble Center. Despite falling behind after the first two events, the Sooners cruised to a 218.500-214.700 victory over the Hawkeyes. OU improves to 7-0 on the season, while Iowa drops to 6-2. OU's team score was a season high.

"I am glad to see that we improved from last time out and put ourselves closer to the standard that Penn State (current No. 1) has set," said OU Head Coach Mark Williams. "The team felt the comfort of home and we started to see a lot more consistency. Shannon Carrion really held things together for us. Daniel Furney was steady all meet and Josh was solid on floor and parallel bars. Of course Brett Covey did his usual tremendous job. It is comforting to know that we can expect high scores from him in every meet."

Senior Josh Landis tumbled his way to a season-high 9.500 on the floor exercise, leading the Sooners to a team score of 36.250, another season-high. Sophomore Josh Gore posted a career-high on the pommel horse, scoring a 9.300 and finishing in first place. Through the first two events Oklahoma found itself in an unfamiliar position, trailing 72.100-72.000.

OU picked it up on the next two events as they counted five scores above 9.000 on each event. Leading the Sooner pack was senior Brett Covey who scored a meet-high 9.750 on still rings. Shannon Carrion scored 9.300 and Furney scored 9.200 to round out the top three on the event. Leading OU's vault attack was Furney at 9.300, followed closely by sophomore David Henderson with a 9.250.

Seniors Furney and Landis notched OU's top scores on parallel bars with 9.200 and 9.000, respectively. The scores landed the duo in first and third on the event. Furney would grab his second event top finish with a score of 9.350. Gore tied for third with a 9.250.

Furney would snag his third first place finish with a 54.500 in the all-around. Sophomore Heath Mueller finished in third place in the all-around with a score of 52.750.

"I feel like we are still competing more against ourselves," ," commented Williams about holding the nation's longest win streak. "I look at more of what we can do and how we will get there. If I am happy with what I see on the floor from our guys, whether we win or lose, I am pleased. I can see us getting to the 219 scoring range by improving on a few things we missed tonight. If we do that we will put ourselves right there with Penn State."

Iowa freshman Mike Reavis took the vault title with a team meet high score of 9.500. Camerson Schick finished second in the all-around with a score of a 53.50

The men's gymnastics team hosts their second dual of the season as they look to extend their winning streak to 12 straight against Nebraska, Friday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m., inside the Lloyd Noble Center. Admission to the event is $5 for adults and $2 for children. For more information on tickets, call (800) 456-GoOU.
