OU Women's Golf In Fifth Place After First Round In California

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team is in fifth place at the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge after recording a first-round score of 300 in its first tournament of the spring. The Sooners trail first-place Pepperdine by 16 strokes.
The 18-team field is playing at the 5,912-yard, par-71 Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif. The tournament features 14 of the teams ranked in the latest Golfweek Top 25 poll. In addition, 17 of the teams competed in the 2002 NCAA Tournament.
Senior Allison Johnson is tied for fifth place after recording a 71, just 3 strokes behind tournament leader Charlotte Mayorkas. Junior Lisa Meldrum carded a 74 and is tied for 14th while sophomore Emily Milberger is tied for 39th after a round of 77. Freshman Amparo Gala, making her first collegiate appearance, recorded a 78 and is tied for 49th. Junior Hope Edge shot a first-round score of 83 and is tied for 80th place.
Oklahoma will resume play at 9 a.m. PST Tuesday and the tournament will conclude on Wednesday.
