The No. 15 ranked Oklahoma wrestling team defeated Bacone College Thursday night, 53-0, and Central Oklahoma, 33-9, at the Hamilton Field House in Edmond Oklahoma. The Sooners record their first shutout of the season with an impressive win over Bacone, scoring four falls. Oklahoma added one more win Thursday against Central Oklahoma with three major decisions.

"I am extremely pleased with our performance in both matches," head coach Jack Spates said. "We wrestled hard and aggressive and wrestled really well from on top."

Red-shirt freshman Sam Hazewinkel kept his undefeated streak alive after pinning Mike Copeland of Bacone at 2:27 and Jared Henning of Central Oklahoma at 3:24 in the 125 pound weight class. Hazewinkel struck fast against Bacone with a takedown in the first period at 1:56. Copeland escaped making the score 2-1. That is all Hazewinkel needed though, he took down Copeland and pinned him with 33 seconds left in the first. Hazewinkel pinned Henning, his second opponent of the night, in the second period after leading 6-2.

"Sam was exceptional," Spates said. "He was aggressive from the get go. He was just too much for him."

Sophomore Teyon Ware, junior E.K. Waldhaus and senior Leonce Crump also recorded falls against Bacone at 141, 174 and HWT respectively. Ware came off a rusty performance against Oklahoma State to dominate Bryan Odle of Bacone. Ware pinned Odle in the second period at 4:33 after he was winning 12-4. In Ware's second match he decisioned Wade Bramlitt of UCO, 10-4 after scoring seven points in the second period.

Waldhaus wasted no time recording his fall at 2:51 over Grant Montgomery of Bacone, not allowing Montgomery to score a point. Waldhaus also won his second match by a major decision over Jared Hess of UCO, 6-5. Crump added one more pin to his impressive list to put him at eighth place on the career pins list with 32. Crump recorded his fall over Dillion Ward of Bacone at 2:45 after a score of 2-0. In Crump's second match, he scored a major decision over Chris Finn of UCO, 10-0. Crump did not allow a point scored against him in either match.

"Teyon wrestled extremely hard," Spates said. "He needs to find a set up; if he does that he will be deadly."

Freshman Mimi Miller, freshman Jeff Ecklof and senior Rafael Maturino all recorded major decisions at 133, 149 and 174 respectively. Miller's maj. dec. over Mike Miller of Bacone 14-5 after exploding in the third period scoring nine points and giving up only two. Miller lost his second match, 4-1, against Cole Province of UCO. Miller was down 3-0 going into the third period and could not gain enough ground to come back and win.

Ecklof recorded his maj. dec. over Larry Griffin of Bacone, 14-3, by only allowing one point per period. Ecklof almost pinned his second opponent, Jerod Goodwin of UCO, before the match started, pinning him at 1:18. Maturino scored a maj. dec. over Daniel Roberts of Bacone, 14-2, after a riding time of 3:05. Maturino lost a close second match in a 6-5 decision against Shawn Silvas of UCO.

"Jeff Ecklof believes in himself," Spates said. "He went out there, hit a big move and stuck it."

Freshman Charles Jones recorded the only technical fall of the night over John Carnes of Bacone, 21-6. Jones pinned Shea Timothy of UCO at the 4:09 mark in his second match after only leading 1-0. Red-shirt freshman Justin Dyer and junior Joel Tapler both were awarded forfeits in their matches against Bacone. Dyer major decisioned Bryan Tapley of UCO, 13-2 in his second match.
