November 28, 2003 | Men's Basketball

The OU men's basketball team will spend its 2004 Thanksgiving at the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska, as the tournament field was announced this week by the University of Alaska-Anchorage.  Seven of the eight teams have been named and include Oklahoma, Alaska-Anchorange, Alabama, Minnesota, Utah, Wake Forest and Washington.  The eighth team will be announced at a later date.

The Sooners have competed in the Great Alaska Shootout one other time, placing third in the 1983 event under then-head coach Billy Tubbs.  OU beat Southern Cal and Santa Clara and lost to Arkansas.

Tenth-year OU head coach Kelvin Sampson has taken one previous Sooner squad to Alaska.  The 1999-2000 team won the Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks by beating Montana State, George Washington and California.
