EA Sports All-Stars

November 15, 2003 | Men's Basketball
The Oklahoma men's basketball team rebounded from a sluggish showing in its first exhibition game as it routed EA Sports All-Stars, 90-53, at the Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday evening. OU, which lost to Athletes First on Monday night, has now won 31 of its last 33 exhibition games.
The Sooners finished the exhibition season with a 1-1 record and host Eastern Washington in the regular season home opener on Friday, Nov. 21.
The Sooners put the game out of reach midway through the first half as they put together a 14-0 run to take a 21-9 lead. The rally was sparked by freshman Lawrence McKenzie who drained a pair of three pointers. McKenzie got a starting nod in place of the injured Jason Detrick.

Another Sooner run, this time for nine points, gave the Sooners a 46-22 halftime lead. Four late points from Drew Lavender and a De'Angelo Alexander three sent the Sooners into the locker room with the offense in high gear.
When OU wasn't in an extended rally, it was senior Jabahri Brown dominating the low post with 14 first half points. Brown finished with 21 points, the most he's ever scored in an Oklahoma uniform (previous high was 16 on Monday night's exhibition game).
The second half proved to be similar to the first as OU outscored the visitor 44-31 after halftime. The Sooners were able to stave off any significant rally from EA Sports in the second half thanks to just four turnovers and stout 47 percent shooting from the field.
After being dominated on the boards against Athletes First (50-28), the Sooners returned the favor to EA Sports and held a final rebound advantage of 47-36, which included 18 offensive boards.
De'Angelo Alexander finished with 15 points and four rebounds. Freshman Drew Lavender had 12 points, including a pair of threes, and a team-best six assists. Fellow freshman Jimmy Tobias scored 10 points while junior college transfer Jaison Williams poured in nine points and had five rebounds. Sophomore Larry Turner contributed six points and six rebounds.
The only dark spot for the Sooners Saturday was their free throw shooting. OU made just 9-of-17 attempts for a 53 percent mark.
EA Sports was led by former Wake Forest guard Robert O'Kelly, who netted 14 points and led three All-Stars in double-digits offensively. Marvin Rogers contributed 12 points, while Shaun Fountain finished with 10.
Oklahoma next hosts the Sooner Invitational, which begins for OU on Friday against Eastern Washington at 8:15 p.m. The first game of the Sooner Invitational features South Carolina State against Oral Roberts with a 6 p.m. tip at Lloyd Noble Center. The consolation and championship gmes will be played Saturday at 6 and 8:15 p.m.
