November 14, 2003 | Football

This is the tenth installment of the Pasha Jackson journal. I'm going to talk a little about last weekend's Texas A&M game and then take a look at Baylor. We're also going to get back to some questions from fans this week. So remember to email me your questions or comments using the link at the end of my journal.

Journal Entry No. 10 (Nov. 14, 2003)
The last game was cool against Texas A&M because it was a perfect example of what I have been saying all year. If you prepare the right way you will have the opportunity to be extremely successful. The result on Saturday showed that we were the better prepared team and I am happy with the way we carried ourselves. We started the game very intense and maintained that at halftime, where as last season we had a tendency to fall back in the second half.

Baylor is coming up and you never want to underestimate teams -- that is what we are trying to avoid this weekend. This is the same team that beat Colorado and that Buffalo team gave us a tough time. It might seem silly to compare teams like that, but when the games that everyone is shaking their heads at happens -- and they wonder why -- its because one team looked past the other. So it all comes down to what I seem to say every week and that is to remain focused and stick to the game plan for the week leading up to the game.

Baylor is skilled, their tailback is on the verge of getting 1,000 yards for the season and he is just a solid athlete. Their offensive line is big and physical and they are just an overall better team than they were a season ago. This weekend is like any other, it has the potential to be really good or really bad. But I think with the right preparation everything will take care of itself. And we've had some great practices this week. It feels like this should be a good game for us. Again, Baylor is no one to underestimate and they can hold their own.

This week we are going to get back to some questions from the fans.

Pasha, what is your favorite football movie of all time?
- Jason from Lindsay, Okla.

I would have to say The Program and Waterboy. I really love comedy but The Program was real intense, that was the first time I sat back and looked at college football and said wow! It was just so exciting as a whole and crazy. And you can't go wrong with Adam Sandler playing Bobby Boucher knocking people out. It doesn't get much funnier than that.

How often do former players come and speak to the team and of those, who was the most impressive?
- Bobby from Tulsa, Okla.

They come by every now and then especially during two-a-days, and it is nice because it breaks the monotony of everyday routine. Keith Jackson left a real big impression on me. He had success playing on every level and still was focused on life after football and he is doing pretty well for himself, and I respect that. He has a real good last name too!

Pasha, I am the captain on the JV football team and have been having some problems. I was wondering what I can do to get a team motivated as a captain should?
- Dustin from Garland, Texas

Dustin, football is like life and everyone is not going to be on the same page. You are going to have some that are more focused than others and being a captain in football is just like being a captain in life. If you want to learn how to lead then you have to realize that there is more than one way to approach people and it all comes down to finding those ways and how much time you are willing to dedicate to that.

You have to find that balance of doing stuff for others and keeping yourself focused. It is also a good idea to search out advice from coaches or players that see the way you do, because you can't do this on your own. However, if the team is just a bunch of guys that can't be reached, then just realize that there are more important things in life than high school football. Just remember to stay focused and keep your goals in reach and don't let others deter you from that path.

What do you all say in the chant you do just before the game?
- Gary from Stillwater, Okla.

It is basically just a bunch of random chanting to get us fired up, sometimes we have some actual songs, mostly rap, in there too.

Pasha, what CD is getting the most play in your car right now?
- Blane from Norman, Okla.

You kind of got me at a bad time because I am kind of in between some things right now, but I always have some Tupac in the car. If you are from California and do not own a Tupac CD, than something is wrong with you. I actually have been listening a lot to Deep Forest, who is a new age type band. I got this one where it is all about Indians and it is all mystical and I listen to it when I take drives to the lake or whatever. Its real cool and real peaceful and when the moon is just right, that is when that type of music really appeals to me. I also have some Lil John and the East Side Boys, Lunasic and Jay Z.

That is all the time this week, hope to see everyone this weekend at the Baylor game and till next time, GO SOONERS!
