Journal Entry No. 8 (Nov. 12, 2003)
Hey, Texas A&M was a good team. Basically that same group of guys beat us last year. We were really focused on that game. We were really looking forward to it.  We had a great week of practice -- pretty much our best week. We got out there and everything just seemed to click.

A&M wasn't a horrible team.  They played hard and they never gave up but it just seemed like everything went our way. We had a good time and everyone got a chance to get in -- which is always good. They're a good team and we respect them a lot. Now, on to my questions.

Why did you guys stick with black shoes this season? Was it a team decision?
- Farrell from Tulsa, Oklahoma

It wasn't really a team decision. I guess last year we saw a lot of teams wear black shoes and we thought it looked real good. Maybe someone talked to coach about it but we just decided to do it. I guess coach tried it out and saw what we thought and it kind of worked out. I think they look good so I like them.

Which type of player is harder for you to block, the speed guy or the power guy?
- Erik from Norman, Oklahoma

I like to block the speed guy. I mean, they're fast but once you get your hands on them -- you can control them. Blocking the power guy -- he's gonna have some speed because he's playing end so you're going to have some sort of combination right there. I'd really rather just stick to the speed guy rather than the big, strong, fast guy. To me, it doesn't really matter.  I just try to dominate whoever it is (laughs).

Jammal, like yourself I'm a Mac grad.  How about them Highlanders?  Think we have a chance at State? Those boys are playing like wildfire.
- Bill from Lawton, Oklahoma

Mac is doing really, really good. I'm happy for those guys. I think this is the first time we've won district in a while. Hopefully they'll go on to win State. Coach Manning is a great coach. He gets those guys going. Just seems like everything's working their way. It would be great for Coach Manning because he does a great job for those guys.

Jammal, do you ever get to watch any other teams play on Saturday?
- Jeff from Vinita, Oklahoma

That's what I spend most of time after we get in from a game doing. I usually get something to eat and just watch football to see how the Saturday shapes up.  I just enjoy football so much and I like to see the plays.  I hope someday to coach high school football.

If they could play any song or movie clip for you when you ran out onto the field, what would it be?
- Alison from Joplin, Missouri

If they could really play any song as I ran out onto the field -- I'd want it to be the anthem from Halloween. You know, that piano -- when people hear that, they fear that. If it could be any movie clip -- well, probably when little Nemo got lost. (Jammal picked another movie that would scare little kids so he was forced to choose something else -- and the Nemo thing, well ...it's Jammal's weak attempt at being sarcastic.)

Jammal, do you ever wish you could be a running back, run behind a tackle like yourself and take the ball into the end zone?
Dan from Ponca City, Oklahoma

Sure, I wish I could get in the backfield and run behind a guy like me. I'd find the end zone. Everyone wants to score a touchdown. I scored touchdowns in high school off of passes and on defense. I was a second-team all-state tight end. I returned a punt for a touchdown against Noble my senior year.  The guy kicked the ball short and we were making the wall and it bounced and I just got it on one bounce and ran 45 yards for a touchdown.

I fell on a fumble on the five yard line in college but that's as close as I've come to the end zone.

OK, I'm headed home. Until next time, Go Sooners...
