White Defeats Red 18-10 At Red/White Classic

The White team defeated the Red team in Saturday's OU wrestling Red/White Classic by a score of 18-10 at the Howard McCasland Field House. Seventeen Sooner wrestlers competed in nine matches during the evening to determine starting positions for the upcoming season.

All three OU seniors bested their Classic opponents. Heavyweight Leonce Crump defeated Jake Hager by a 15-10 decision. Daniel Caruthers defeated freshman Brandon Hardy by 8-7decision and Rafael Maturino defeated freshman Brad Martens by major decision (16-6).

Redshirt freshman Sam Hazewinkel competed in two matches on the evening. He began the night winning by decision over freshman Mimi Miller, 3-1. Hazewinkel also wrestled in the final match of the classic, decisioning freshman Joe Comparin, 7-2.

At 184 pounds, redshirt freshman Justin Dyer pinned freshman Philip Kownslar in the second period. Brandon Palmer was the only OU true freshman to score a victory on the night, defeating sophomore Shane Kidd in the 141 pound contest.

Oklahoma begins its regular season November 15 at the Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic in Brockport, N.Y.
