Journal Entry No. 4 (Oct. 23, 2003)
Last weekend was a pretty good weekend for us. We needed a win against Texas Tech and we got it, winning 4-1. While the overall play of the game was a little sluggish and slow, we were able to get the job done and move one step closer to making the Big 12 Tournament. A shutout would have been better, but beggars can't always be choosers.
As for the Baylor game, that is a game we should have won. It's unfortunate to come away with a tie considering we were up 1-0 with less than two minutes remaining in the game. We got caught off guard for a brief moment and they punished us for it. Luckily, we were able to maintain our composure in OT and come away with a tie, which allowed us to make the Big 12 Tournament. We'll take a tie over a loss any day.
We have a tough weekend coming up and we know we have to focus on the task at hand. We have to beat Kansas in Lawrence this weekend. Kansas is a very good team that is physical and plays well. You can't let down at any point on them because they are a good enough team that they will punish you for it.
After Kansas, we travel to Stillwater to play in-state rival Oklahoma State. No game compares to Bedlam. No matter what sport, Bedlam can go either way. I am not sure what it is about the rivalry, but it's so intense and physical. As always, it's going to be a dogfight. More than anything, I want to beat the Cowgirls. We lost to OSU last year and I don't want to end my senior season knowing we lost to them two years in a row.
Let's get on to some questions, keep emailing me some more and I'll try to get to them in the next entry.
I am still in high school, but in the near future I would like to go to OU and play soccer there as well. What do I need to do to get noticed and what kind of player is Coach Evans looking for? Is he just looking for bigger, taller girls? What should I do to stand out?
- Cassey from Tulsa, Okla.
Well, coach doesn't really have a specific type of person. As you can see, he didn't exactly go for size when recruiting me. One thing that will definitely get you noticed is your work ethic. How hard you work really says a lot about what type of player you are. You need to always give 100 percent on and off the field.
Another thing you can do is send Randy a bio and possibly a video of some of your highlights during your career so he can see what you are capable of. If you have some weak points in your game, make sure send him your bio, make sure to include all your stats and other important information. If at first he doesn't seem interested, don't give up. Be persistent and adamant.
Hi Logan - Thank you for the thrills and happiness you've given Sooner fans over the years. You'll be remembered as one of OU's all-time greats. What are your career goals? I think the WUSA will be back, and I'd love to see you in it!
- Tracey from Oklahoma City
Tracy, first off, I would just like to thank you for all your support and encouragement. It's fans like you who inspire and push me to do my best. Thank you!
I had definitely planned on trying to play in the WUSA. Hopefully it will be back, but I know that I don't want to stop playing. I would love to train kids who want to play in college. Hopefully I could help them reach their goals your perfect them. You need to be tactically and fundamentally sound in every aspect of your game. When you and make them a better player. If playing after college doesn't work out for me, then I will pursue something in my major of criminology.
In your opinion, who is the funniest girl on the team? What kind of crazy things do you and your teammates do for fun?
- Connie from Norman, Okla.
I think the funniest girl on the team would have to be either Lauren Maclver or Savannah Scott. They are absolutely hilarious. There is never a dull moment when they are around. We love to just hang out with each other and be stupid. We love doing dumb things to get a laugh out of people. We are always goofing around and making fun of each other, or just being silly.. Our goal is to always have fun, and we do and everyone on the team gets along.
What is the greatest moment in your OU career?
- Glen from Oklahoma City
I am not sure if I have one great moment, but I do have a couple of them. The one that stands out the most for me was my freshman year playing Texas at home. The game was scoreless with three minutes left and I scored two goals in two minutes. That was the first time OU had ever beaten Texas. I also was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for my efforts and that game really stands out in my mind.
Another would be making the Big 12 Tournament for the first time ever in my sophomore year. In addition, breaking the school's all-time goals record and points record was a real amazing feeling and accomplishment. And finally I would have to say beating Nebraska for the first time ever at Nebraska was also an exhilarating feeling.
Hope everyone has a good weekend and can make it to Bedlam! Tune in next week for my next entry with more Q&A. GO SOONERS!
