Ivanov suffers singles loss
NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma's No. 2 doubles team of Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) and Ondrej Fukala (Prerov, Czech Republic) upset second seeded Joerg Barthel and Jose Rivera of Nebraska, 8-3, in the quarterfinals of the 2003 ITA Region V Men's Tennis Championships held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., Saturday. The pair will face Juan Escalante and Gabriel Loredo of Wichita State in semi-final action Sunday.
OU's top seeded doubles team of Matt Long (Ft. Worth, Texas) and Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) cruised to a 8-4 victory over UMKC's Richard Harrison and Joe Kane to advance to the quarterfinals before being upset, 8-3, by sixth seeded Felipe Montenegro and Anthony Perkins of Drake.
In singles action, 14th-seeded Ivanov of Oklahoma fell to fourth-seeded Bastian Faisst of Arkansas-Little Rock, 6-3, 6-3, in the round of 16. In singles action, Long, who competed in the consolation round of singles, fell to Arkansas' Talley Parker, 6-3, 6-4.
