White Hot
With his 290-yard, four-touchdown passing performance against Texas, senior Jason White is off to the fastest start of any quarterback in Oklahoma history. Through the first six games of the 2003 season, White has thrown for 20 touchdowns while giving up only three interceptions in 187 passes.
Halfway through the 2003 season, White is already tied for the third-most TD passes in a season with Josh Heupel who had 20 in the national title run of 2000. Heupel holds the school record of 33 touchdown passes in his first year at OU in 1999 while Nate Hybl had 24 TD tosses last season.
White is averaging 294 yards and 3.3 touchdown passes a game while completing 69% of his attempts.
In 1979, the NCAA instituted its passing efficiency rating system to rank and evaluate quarterbacks. Currently, White stands at 180.22 through six games this season. If he can maintain that efficiency, it would rank as the third-best in NCAA history. Only Shaun King (Tulane, 1998) and Michael Vick (Virginia Tech, 1999) finished their seasons with a higher passing efficiency rating.
King's NCAA record was 183.3 while Vick's was 180.4.
