Oklahoma's Teddy Lehman, one of three finalists for the Butkus Award last season, is one of 11 semi-finalists for this year's award. That announcement came today from the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando, Fla., which presents the honor each year to college football's top linebacker.
Lehman, a senior from Fort Gibson, Okla., currently leads OU's defense, which ranks No. 3 nationally, with 47 tackles. He also has five tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries, three passes broken up and one pass interception. He had a season-high 14 stops against UCLA and was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in that game.

The semi-final list was determined by confidential balloting of the 28-member Butkus Award Selection Committee, comprised of the nation's foremost media members. The committee made its selections from the initial Butkus Award Watch List of 90 college linebackers, which was announced back on August 21, 2003.
On Thursday, November 13, 2003, DACO will announce the three finalists for this year's Butkus Award at a national press/teleconference in Orlando. The three Butkus Award finalists and their coaches will participate in the announcement. The 2003 Butkus Award winner will be announced at the Butkus Award Presentation Ceremony on Friday, December 12, 2003 at the Renaissance Orlando Resort at Sea World.
