NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma volleyball team beat Baylor 35-33, 30-24, 27-30, and 31-29 inside the Howard McCasland Field House for its second Big 12 victory of the season Saturday. OU improved to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 action. Baylor fell to 6-7 and 0-3 in conference.
"We had good balance on offense and that keyed our victory," said OU Head Coach Kalani Mahi. "Our biggest issue this season has been inconsistency, which is rooted in our confidence. Today we overcame a lot of those issues. It was great to see Jennifer (Mosso), Candice (Woods) and Jessica (Barney) turn in outstanding efforts."
Oklahoma's balanced attack was led by senior setter Jessica Barney. She recorded 54 assists and six aces, both career highs. Senior outside hitter Megan O'Connel put away 18 kills a team high and OU career high. Sophomore Candice Woods hit a sizzling .500 (17K-4E-26TA) and knocked out 17 kills, both career highs. Freshman middle blocker Jennifer Mosso got a rare start and took advantage, recording a career-high 13 kills. Junior outside hitter Christina Barlow matched a career high with 15 kills.
"I am proud of the effort we showed today, " said Barney. "I think this is the hardest I have ever seen this team play. When you win with an effort like that, it makes it all the more special."
Leading the Bears attack was Tisha Schwartz who had 21 kills and 10 digs. Jillian Mazzarella recorded 10 kills and 42 assists as well. The Bears were missing junior All-American candidate Stevie Nicholas, who is out with a knee injury.
