Women's Golf Headed To Dick McGuire Invitational In New Mexico

NORMAN, Okla. - In its second meet of the fall season, the University of Oklahoma women's golf team will compete in the Dick McGuire Invitational on Sept. 26-28 in Albuquerque, N.M. The tournament will be played at the 6,069-yard, par-73 University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course.
The three-day event will be formatted with 18 holes each day and the top four scores of each team counting toward the team total. Thursday and Friday rounds will begin at 8:30 a.m. and Saturday's tee time will be 8 a.m.
Competing for the Sooners will be Hope Edge, Allison Johnson, Lisa Meldrum, Emily Milberger and Cathryn Uselton.
The 19-team field will consist of Arizona State, Baylor, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Oklahoma, Pepperdine, San Diego State Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UNLV, UTEP, Washington and Wyoming.

"This will be a very competitive tournament and we always love playing in Albuquerque because it's such a great course. We are looking to take home a team win and also an individual win from any of the girls. I feel we are one of the strong contenders in the tournament and have a very solid group that will be playing for us."
Sooners Tie for Ninth Place at NCAA Fall Preview
The Oklahoma women's golf team tied for ninth place at the NCAA Fall Preview which was held Sept. 15-17 in West Lafayette, Ind., home of the 2003 National Championships. The Sooners opened the 2002-03 season with a 920 to tie with Pepperdine and Southern California. The tournament featured nine of Golfweek's top 10 teams.
Junior Lisa Meldrum led the way for the Sooners with a score of 220 to earn a fourth-place finish. Senior Allison Johnson tied for 35th place with a score of 230 while junior Hope Edge finished tied for 48th with a 233. Sophomore Emily Milberger posted a score of 237 to tie for 62nd place. Freshman Cathryn Uselton placed 89th with a total of 257 in her first collegiate tournament.

Hope Edge: Fired a 233 to tie for 48th at the NCAA Fall Preview ... Placed in the top 20 in four tournaments last year ... Tied for 39th at NCAA Regionals with a score of 236 ... Named an Academic All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association ... Selected to the first-team Academic All-Big 12 squad.
Emily Milberger: Finished tied for 62nd place after shooting a 237 last week's NCAA Fall Preview ... Ended 2002 season at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic with a score of 239 and a 46th-place finish ... Honored as an Academic All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association.
Cathryn Uselton: Placed 89th in her first collegiate tournament, the NCAA Fall Preview, after carding a 257 last week ... Two-time Texas state champion in high school ... Finished second runner-up in state twice.
